📚✨ Inspiring Day at Sugarmill! ✨📚
Today, our EXTRA special teacher, Mrs. Payne, shared an amazing story with her students about Malcolm Mitchell—Super Bowl Champion, Author, Keynote Speaker, and Founder/CEO of Share the Magic Foundation. 🏆📖
The students watched a brief documentary on how Malcolm worked hard to overcome challenges and learn to read. His dedication led him to write a children's book, which our little Eagles got to read together in class! 🦅 This story truly inspired our students to keep working hard and strengthening their reading skills. 💪
Thank you, Mrs. Payne, for sharing such a powerful message with our students today! 📚❤️ #ReadingIsMagic #InspireOurEagles #SugarmillStrong #MalcolmMitchell #SESEaglesSoar #SESEagles

🎉 Shoutout to our incredible 5th-grade teachers at Sugarmill Elementary! Last night, they hosted a Tech Night for 5th grade families to drop by and learn more about supporting our Eagles through platforms like Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and other tech tools. 💻📱
They also shared a QR code to a parent site for our new EnVision Math curriculum and recommended some fantastic websites where students can practice and build their math, literacy, and academic skills at home! 🏠✨ It’s all about making sure our students feel confident with both their learning and technology!! 💪
A big thank you to our teachers and parents for working together as a team to help our students succeed.🦅

Exciting news for our 5th Grade Eagles! 🎉
Students at Sugarmill Elementary were given an opportunity on Friday to participate in a "Violin Petting Zoo" in collaboration with the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra (GIYO). Volunteers and instructors from GIYO brought in violins for the students to handle and try out!
Students heard several selections performed by Ms. Kaitlyn Smedley, a professional violinist from the Coastal Symphony of Georgia, and Ms. Lucie Akkermans from the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra.
This year, students in 5th grade will be offered the opportunity to participate in after-school violin lessons under the instruction of Ms. Lucie Akkermans for the Fall semester. Through a generous donation specifically for Camden County Schools, we are able to offer the lessons for the entire semester, including use of a violin, music book and stand, for only $50! Students will learn the parts of a violin, proper handling and how to read music, proper finger positions, as well as several pieces of music. We can’t wait to see what our eagles learn this semester!
If your 5th grade Eagle is interested in participating this semester, please contact our Art Teacher, Mrs. Shumway! Lessons will given weekly on Thursdays, beginning September 12.

🎒📚 Attendance Awareness Month is here! 🌟
Let's come together to highlight the importance of regular school attendance. Did you know that students who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve academic success and build strong social skills? 🏫✨
Families, teachers, and students – let's work hand in hand to ensure our children are present, engaged, and ready to learn every single day! Here are a few tips to promote good attendance:
Set a Routine: Establish a consistent sleep schedule and morning routine.
Create a Positive Environment: Encourage a love for learning at home.
Communicate: Keep an open line of communication between parents and teachers.
Support: Offer help when students face challenges that may hinder attendance.
Together, we can make a difference! Let's celebrate #AttendanceAwarenessMonth by committing to being present and making every school day count. 🌟📖

Friday in Mrs. Renshaw's Room!
Last week in our new HMH curriculum, first grade focused on friendship. Our story, “A Kid’s Guide to Friends,” taught us all about how to make friends and be a good friend to others. To celebrate what we learned, we had a ‘Fun Food Friday’ and made a special Friendship Fruit Salad! Each ingredient represented our wonderful classroom — kind friends, hardworking students, and kids who use kind words and hands.
We also talked about how we only want positive attitudes in our classroom. We had a juicy apple that looked good on the outside, but when we cut it open, it was rotten inside. The kids decided we didn’t want to add a “bad apple” to our friendship salad. This sparked a great discussion about how we all want to be kind, positive, and supportive — just like our fruit salad!
We’re so grateful to have a class full of Eagles who are as sweet as can be! 🍎🍊🍇

🦅 Today in Mrs. Clelland's 2nd Grade Class 🦅 Our bright and hard-working eagles soared to new heights today! The students spent time working on word chains, recognizing letter sounds, and making words in a fun and engaging way. It was wonderful to see them so excited about learning. They’re building strong foundations for reading and writing, one word at a time. Keep up the amazing work, Eagles! 📝✨ #SESEaglesSoar #2ndGrade #BrightEagles #LearningIsFun #WordChains #SugarmillEagles #SugarmillElementary #SESEagles

First grade students love Pete the Cat! After reading Pete the Cat books, students created their own Pete the Cat and shared some fun facts about themselves. Our eagles love practicing their writing skills in fun and creative ways. As Pete would say, "it's all good!"

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰: School buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road. They’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries, and in every state, stop-arm laws exist to protect children from other motorists.
If you are driving, remember these simple rules:
– 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 — don’t speed up — because the bus is preparing to stop. There are - likely students waiting to get on the bus or parents waiting nearby to pick up children.
– 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 — and wait at least 20 feet behind the bus — because children are getting on or off the school bus. Stay stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving.
– 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧, particularly in the morning or mid-afternoon, around school arrival and dismissal times. Be alert as you back out of a driveway, or drive through a neighborhood, school zone or bus stop.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 - 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧:
Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Teach them to play it SAFE:
– 𝐒tay five steps away from the curb.
– 𝐀lways wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the bus driver signals for you to board.
– 𝐅ace forward after finding a seat on the bus.
– 𝐄xit the bus after it stops and look left-right-left for cars before crossing a street.
