SCIENCE + MATH FUN in 2nd Grade! 🎉
Our 2nd graders had two awesome hands-on learning experiences last week:
✨ Place Value Practice
Students used Cheez-Its as hundreds, pretzels as tens, and M&Ms as ones to build and represent 3-digit numbers. A salty & sweet way to bring base-ten place value to life!
✨ States of Matter Coke Floats
Science got delicious as students explored how solids, liquids, and gases change while enjoying an ice cream Coke float experiment. Learning never tasted so good!
Way to go, 2nd grade Eagles— and shoutout to our 2nd grade teachers for making math & science both fun and memorable for students!! 🦅💙💛

Our 5th grade families joined us for an engaging Tech Night to explore the tools and resources students use every day in the classroom! Parents and students logged in together, learned how to access online resources from home, and explored Google Classroom, grades, and more.
We also touched on the important role Title I plays in supporting our students’ education here at SES. Strong partnerships between school and home are what help our Eagles soar, and we are so grateful for our families’ involvement! 🦅💙💛
A huge thank you to our 5th grade teachers for organizing this informative family and community engagement opportunity!

Did you know that during World War I, the Allied Forces introduced the idea of “Dazzle Ships” to confuse German U-Boats? The bold, geometric camouflage designs didn’t hide the ships—instead, they made it difficult for the enemy to tell which direction the ship was traveling. Even a split-second of hesitation could save lives.
Recently, our 5th graders in Mrs. Hutchinson’s class became members of the WWI Camoufleur team and designed their very own dazzle ships! Students combined history, creativity, and problem-solving to create artwork that was both meaningful and eye-catching. 🎨📚
We are so proud of their hard work and dazzling designs! 🦅 Thanks, Mrs. Hutchinson, for inspiring and challenging our 5th grade students!!

Our little learners worked so hard during physical and occupational therapy with Mrs. Alicia and Mrs. Marsha. Students practiced fine motor skills by tearing and gluing paper to make apple crafts 🍎, built hand strength and coordination while rolling toy trucks through paint and bubble wrap 🚗, and worked on coloring and tracing activities that support focus and control.
A huge shoutout to our wonderful paraprofessionals—Mrs. Tiffany, Mrs. Butler, and Mrs. Cheryl—for always jumping in with helping hands and big hearts. 💛
We are so proud of all the growth, smiles, and teamwork in this classroom—way to go, Eagles! 🦅✨

To celebrate, students enjoyed a popsicle treat during lunch yesterday! 🍦💙
But we’re not stopping there… our new goal is 130,000 minutes of reading as a school! Let’s keep up the momentum, keep turning those pages, and show just how high Eagles can fly! 🚀✨
Let’s go, Eagles! 💪📖

Our 2nd graders have been busy turning math into something delicious!
👉 In Mrs. Latess’s class, students surveyed the colors in a bag of Skittles, created tally marks and bar graphs, and then answered questions about the data. Talk about learning that’s both colorful and tasty! 🌈
👉 In Mrs. Valdez’s classes, students wrapped up their graphing unit with a hands-on activity using Fruit Loops—counting, sorting, and graphing their way to sweet success! ✨
We love seeing our Eagles engaged, excited, and having fun while learning math!

✨ Building Good Friends ✨
Mrs. Renshaw’s first-grade Eagles spent last Friday learning what it means to be a good friend. Their story from our HMH curriculum, A Kid’s Guide to Friends, showed them ways to build friendships and be a kind, supportive classmate.
Together, students brainstormed words to describe what good friends are and what they can do. To wrap up the lesson, they created a special “friendship salad”—each ingredient representing the wonderful mix of qualities in their classroom (kindness, hard work, and encouraging words and actions).
The class also learned that attitudes matter! When given the option of adding a “rotten banana” to the salad, students quickly agreed they didn’t want to include negative behaviors. This sparked a meaningful discussion about choosing to be positive, supportive, and kind—just like the fruit in their salad. 🍎🍊🍇
From kindness and sharing to listening and playing, our students are off to a great start in learning how to support and care for one another this school year. And of course, they wrapped it all up by enjoying their yummy friend fruit salad together! 🥗🍓🍍

Last week, Ms. Ledford kicked things off with a Growth Mindset lesson using the story of Humpty Dumpty—a perfect reminder that it’s not about the fall, but how you get back up! 💡
Students were challenged to build a wall to balance on, design a parachute, or create a landing pad to protect their very own egg. 🥚🪂 Even when eggs cracked, the mantra in Challenge rang true: “If you can’t make a mistake, you can’t make anything!”
We love seeing our Eagles take risks, problem-solve, and celebrate both successes and mistakes along the way. 💙💛
