Friday in Mrs. Renshaw's Room! Last week in our new HMH curriculum, first grade focused on friendship. Our story, “A Kid’s Guide to Friends,” taught us all about how to make friends and be a good friend to others. To celebrate what we learned, we had a ‘Fun Food Friday’ and made a special Friendship Fruit Salad! Each ingredient represented our wonderful classroom — kind friends, hardworking students, and kids who use kind words and hands. We also talked about how we only want positive attitudes in our classroom. We had a juicy apple that looked good on the outside, but when we cut it open, it was rotten inside. The kids decided we didn’t want to add a “bad apple” to our friendship salad. This sparked a great discussion about how we all want to be kind, positive, and supportive — just like our fruit salad! We’re so grateful to have a class full of Eagles who are as sweet as can be! 🍎🍊🍇 #FriendshipSalad #HMH #FunFoodFriday #SESEaglesSoar #SESEagles #SugarmillElementary

🦅 Today in Mrs. Clelland's 2nd Grade Class 🦅 Our bright and hard-working eagles soared to new heights today! The students spent time working on word chains, recognizing letter sounds, and making words in a fun and engaging way. It was wonderful to see them so excited about learning. They’re building strong foundations for reading and writing, one word at a time. Keep up the amazing work, Eagles! 📝✨ #SESEaglesSoar #2ndGrade #BrightEagles #LearningIsFun #WordChains #SugarmillEagles #SugarmillElementary #SESEagles

First grade students love Pete the Cat! After reading Pete the Cat books, students created their own Pete the Cat and shared some fun facts about themselves. Our eagles love practicing their writing skills in fun and creative ways. As Pete would say, "it's all good!" #SugarmillElementary #SESEagles #PetetheCat #1stgrade #LearningIsFun

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰: School buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road. They’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries, and in every state, stop-arm laws exist to protect children from other motorists. If you are driving, remember these simple rules: – 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 — don’t speed up — because the bus is preparing to stop. There are - likely students waiting to get on the bus or parents waiting nearby to pick up children. – 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 — and wait at least 20 feet behind the bus — because children are getting on or off the school bus. Stay stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving. – 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧, particularly in the morning or mid-afternoon, around school arrival and dismissal times. Be alert as you back out of a driveway, or drive through a neighborhood, school zone or bus stop. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 - 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧: Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Teach them to play it SAFE: – 𝐒tay five steps away from the curb. – 𝐀lways wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the bus driver signals for you to board. – 𝐅ace forward after finding a seat on the bus. – 𝐄xit the bus after it stops and look left-right-left for cars before crossing a street.

Due to the potential for high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding associated with tropical storm Debby over the next two days, and with guidance from the National Weather Service and Camden Emergency Management Agency, Camden County Schools will delay the opening of the 2024-2025 school year. Camden County Schools will be closed Monday, August 5, 2024, and Tuesday, August 6, 2024, for all staff and students.
