🦉🔍 Mrs. Renshaw's Class Turned Scientists! 🔍🦉 This past Friday, students in Mrs. Renshaw's room took on the exciting role of scientists during our Owl Pellet Investigations! 🧪🔬 Our young scientists followed the scientific process by writing their own questions, forming hypotheses, and discovering the answers. They found all sorts of "treasures" (tiny bones 🦴) hidden inside their owl pellets and used special keys to figure out what animal the owl had eaten. In addition to the hands-on exploration, students discussed the fascinating relationship between predators and prey, learning all about what owls eat and comparing the basic needs of plants and animals as part of standard S1L1.b. 🌿🦅 It was a hoot of a time, and the students had so much fun being real-life investigators! 🎉 Great work, eagles! #OwlPelletInvestigations #YoungScientists #STEM #SESEaglesSoar #SugarmillElementary #SESEagles

🎨 Shoutout to Our Awesome Eagles for Their Beautiful Artwork! 🎨 A huge THANK YOU to our talented artists who worked so hard on their amazing pieces! We are beyond excited to share that 30 of our incredible students—15 in 5th grade, 11 in 4th grade, and 4 in 3rd grade—represented Sugarmill Elementary at the Coastfest Art Contest in Brunswick. Coastfest is an annual festival and art contest sponsored by the Coastal Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and our Eagles truly shined! Thank you to all of our SES Reading Eagles for reading at home! Please REMEMBER to send in the week one reading totals on TUESDAY morning so that we can add up how many minutes we can log as a school for the READmarathon. It's very important that last week's totals are turned in tomorrow. The storm has put us a little bit off schedule, but we are so glad that everyone was reading during their time at home. Thank you for all of your support as we try to win the READmarathon and win a special visit from Malcolm Mitchell!

Today, the Kindergarten students at Sugarmill Elementary participated in a community helper day to kick off their new unit of My Community Heroes in the new curriculum of HMH. The students dressed as what they wanted to be when they grow up. We had 4 amazing community helpers that came out for us to show off their gear, vehicles, as well as, shared how they contribute to our community. Our Kindergarteners wanted to say a very special thank you to St. Mary’s Fire Department, St. Mary’s Police Department, Doc & Nene’s Shaved Ice and St. Mary’s Public Safety, who came out and devoted their time for our students.

Dear Sugarmill Families, We are thrilled to announce that our school will be participating in the upcoming Malcolm Mitchell Share the Magic Foundation READMarathon! Starting October 7th and running until October 24th, we will be in a friendly competition with other elementary schools across Camden County. The excitement? The three schools that log the highest average minutes read will earn a special visit from none other than Super Bowl Champion, former UGA football star, author, keynote speaker, and founder/CEO of the Share the Magic Foundation—Malcolm Mitchell himself! Mr. Mitchell is a passionate advocate for literacy and loves sharing the magic of reading with students. This is an incredible opportunity for our kids to not only enhance their reading skills but also to meet an inspiring role model! **How You Can Help:** To make our school a winner, we need your support. Every Thursday, please fill out the weekly reading log with the total number of minutes your student has read at home, and send it back to their homeroom teacher. We’ll also be tracking reading time at school! Together, let’s aim for a goal of 800 minutes for each student over the 19 days of competition! Remember, all reading counts—whether it's books, magazines, articles, or even recipes. Reading can happen anywhere: at home, school, or on the go! Let’s rally together to inspire our young readers and show everyone what Sugarmill Elementary can do. We believe in our Eagle Readers!
