🎉📚 Way to go, Eagles! 📚🎉

We didn’t just meet our first Beanstack reading goal of 65,000 minutes—we soared right past it with 70,030 minutes logged! 🦅👏

To celebrate, students enjoyed a popsicle treat during lunch yesterday! 🍦💙

But we’re not stopping there… our new goal is 130,000 minutes of reading as a school! Let’s keep up the momentum, keep turning those pages, and show just how high Eagles can fly! 🚀✨

Let’s go, Eagles! 💪📖

Sweet Graphing Fun in 2nd Grade! 🍭📈

Our 2nd graders have been busy turning math into something delicious!

👉 In Mrs. Latess’s class, students surveyed the colors in a bag of Skittles, created tally marks and bar graphs, and then answered questions about the data. Talk about learning that’s both colorful and tasty! 🌈

👉 In Mrs. Valdez’s classes, students wrapped up their graphing unit with a hands-on activity using Fruit Loops—counting, sorting, and graphing their way to sweet success! ✨

We love seeing our Eagles engaged, excited, and having fun while learning math!

📐✨ Our 5th grade Eagles in Mrs. Thompson’s class have been hard at work building 3D figures and applying formulas to solve for volume! They’re sharpening their math skills and getting ready to show what they know on their upcoming formative assessment. We are so proud of their effort and determination! 🦅

✨ Building Good Friends ✨

Mrs. Renshaw’s first-grade Eagles spent last Friday learning what it means to be a good friend. Their story from our HMH curriculum, A Kid’s Guide to Friends, showed them ways to build friendships and be a kind, supportive classmate.

Together, students brainstormed words to describe what good friends are and what they can do. To wrap up the lesson, they created a special “friendship salad”—each ingredient representing the wonderful mix of qualities in their classroom (kindness, hard work, and encouraging words and actions).

The class also learned that attitudes matter! When given the option of adding a “rotten banana” to the salad, students quickly agreed they didn’t want to include negative behaviors. This sparked a meaningful discussion about choosing to be positive, supportive, and kind—just like the fruit in their salad. 🍎🍊🍇

From kindness and sharing to listening and playing, our students are off to a great start in learning how to support and care for one another this school year. And of course, they wrapped it all up by enjoying their yummy friend fruit salad together! 🥗🍓🍍

We are thrilled to celebrate the amazing students who have completed the **Don't Throw It to Mo!** reading challenge! This special Beanstack challenge was designed for our young readers in PreK through 2nd grade, and these students have truly gone above and beyond.
With football season in full swing, they tackled their reading goals and earned badges by diving into stories for up to 100 minutes. And guess what? At the 100-minute mark, these young readers scored a touchdown with their efforts!
As a reward for their hard work and dedication, each of them will receive a copy of the award-winning book, **Don't Throw It to Mo!** Let's keep the momentum going and continue to inspire a love for reading. Great job, everyone! Keep up the fantastic work! 🌟📖🏆

✨ Challenge is back at Sugarmill! ✨

Last week, Ms. Ledford kicked things off with a Growth Mindset lesson using the story of Humpty Dumpty—a perfect reminder that it’s not about the fall, but how you get back up! 💡

Students were challenged to build a wall to balance on, design a parachute, or create a landing pad to protect their very own egg. 🥚🪂 Even when eggs cracked, the mantra in Challenge rang true: “If you can’t make a mistake, you can’t make anything!”

We love seeing our Eagles take risks, problem-solve, and celebrate both successes and mistakes along the way. 💙💛

📚🍎 Our 4th graders have a voracious appetite for books!

On Friday, Ms. McDonald and Mrs. Kolgaklis transformed their classrooms into cozy “cafes” for a Book Tasting. Students rotated through tables featuring high-quality children’s literature from six different genres. They had just a few minutes to “taste” each book, jot down their thoughts, and share with their classmates before moving on to the next course.

The tasting wrapped up with some real yummy refreshments—and lots of excitement as students built their “To Be Read” lists for the year. What a fun way to explore new books and genres!

A special shoutout to Ms. Smith for helping us gather such a wide variety of books for this event! 👏💙 Way to go, 4th Grade!!

We did it SES Reading Eagles! This morning Mrs. Dana Douglas and Mrs. Mellissa Clark from the Camden County Public Library stopped by to present SES with the trophy for earning first place in the CCPL Summer Reading Challenge. All summer long students and staff logged reading minutes through Beanstack. We were holding steady in 2nd place for most of the summer, but managed to pull ahead in the last few weeks. Thank you to everyone who helped us win! The trophy will be housed in the media center until the end of the year when CCPL will pick it back up to award to the winner of next summer's challenge.

Safety Reminder!

School safety remains our highest priority. Families, we need your partnership in reminding and educating your children about the seriousness of making threats. What may seem like an innocent prank, or simply something said out of anger or frustration, can carry very serious consequences. Every threat, whether real or fake, demands an immediate law enforcement response, disrupts learning, and can result in life-changing legal prosecution.

We take EVERY threat seriously and will continue working closely with the St. Marys Police Department, Kingsland Police Department, and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office to ensure swift and decisive responses to all threats.

The safety of our students and staff will always be our top priority. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Protecting with Purpose,

Chief Kizzi Knight

🏗️ Teamwork + Creativity = Fun! 🏗️

Last week in Mrs. Thompson’s 5th grade class, students kicked off the year with a challenge! First, they found something in common with a classmate and wrote it on a note card. Then came the tricky part—using only those cards, they had to build the tallest tower possible!

The room was full of surprises, laughter, creative problem-solving, and a little healthy competition. What a great way to start the year building both towers and friendships! 💡✨

📚✨ 3rd grade had a blast today reading "Marisol McDonald Doesn’t Match" — and suddenly a few of our Eagles and teachers were looking a little… wonky!

The story follows Marisol, a fun and vibrant girl who’s told she doesn’t “fit in” because of her mixed heritage and unique style. From her red hair and brown skin to her love of peanut butter & jelly burritos, Marisol embraces what makes her different. With the help of a supportive teacher, she learns that her one-of-a-kind qualities are exactly what make her special. 💛

We loved the message: Be proud of who you are. Celebrate what makes you YOU! 🦅 Awesome work, third grade!
