5th Grade Social Studies Fun! 🍬✈️

Last week, our 5th graders wrapped up their Cold War unit by learning about Colonel Gail Halvorsen — also known as “The Candy Bomber.” Students researched his kindness mission and the candy drop project, then put their learning into action by designing, building, and testing their own candy parachutes!

The goal? Get their candy to float gently to the ground… and once they succeeded, they enjoyed a sweet reward! 🍭

Hands-on learning + history + engineering + teamwork = a memorable day in Mrs. Thompson’s class! 💙

Our first graders in Mrs. Renshaw’s class have been learning all about animal adaptations and what animals need to survive! Last Friday, students participated in a hands-on science experiment to simulate how spiders liquify their prey before eating.

The bowl acted as the spider’s web, the sugar cube was the “prey,” and the water represented the spider’s special digestive enzymes (or as the kids called it… spider slobber! 😄).

Learning is so much more fun when we can see it and try it! 🧠✨

Now Enrolling: VegeCooking Camden Session 2!
We’re so excited to continue our Cooking Club for Kids right here at Sugarmill Elementary!

Each Tuesday, young chefs (ages 5 and up) will whip up fun, hands-on recipes — learning kitchen skills, teamwork, and confidence along the way. This session’s theme is “Comforts of Home: Fall & Winter Favorites” — think gourds, goodies, and homemade gifts with a healthy twist! 🍂

Hat Day is coming up at SES!

On Wednesday, October 15th, students can wear their favorite hat for a $1 (or more) donation. All proceeds will go directly to support the Camden County Humane Society and help care for our furry friends. ❤️🐶🐱

📚✨ Camden’s 1st District RESA representative, Dr. Morris, visited SES recently to share the story Hey, Little Ant with our 1st and 2nd graders! 🐜

The book sparked curiosity and movement as students acted out parts depending on which character was speaking. This powerful story encourages kids to think about empathy, respect, and valuing all living things—big or small. 🌎❤️
